Background:
Since I'm pulling Kakashi from his childhood, everything in his background actually takes place before the titular character of Naruto is even born. For that reason I'm going to just give a basic explanation of the world the series takes place in and then give Kakashi's background up to his pull point.
Naruto takes place in a fantasy world populated by humans who can utilize a natural internal force called "chakra" to do cool anime moves. In the distant past, clans of people with specific chakra specialties wandered the land, getting into fights with each other. In the slightly less distant past, these clans started grouping up around the world and forming villages together. In the present day, or at least what passes for it as far as Kakashi is concerned, there are four major villages who all possess military forces comprised of chakra-wielding individuals, also known as ninja.
So, Kakashi is from a village known as Konoha. His mother died when he was born so he was raised by his father, a soldier in the village's ninja forces. Kakashi entered the military at five years old, an unusually young age, partly due to his high intelligence and partly due to his father apparently not knowing any way to keep a preschooler occupied other than teaching it how to fight and use ninja weapons. Because he was so young, rather than making him part of a three-person team (village tradition), he instead served as an apprentice to an elite ninja, or jonin. This jonin, Minato Namikaze, took Kakashi under his wing and did his best to teach him despite Kakashi being the most uptight five year old to ever exist. During this time, Kakashi's father undertook a mission for the village that went sour, causing his reputation to be ruined and leading him into a deep depression that culminated in him committing suicide in front of the then eight-year-old Kakashi. That botched mission was also widely considered to be the cause of the international conflict known as the Third Shinobi War. It was also around this time that Kakashi was old enough that most new additions to Konoha's military were his age, so two fresh ninja joined him under Minato's command to form a traditional three-person squad. Team dynamics weren't amazing, as Kakashi had more experience and more intelligence than his new teammates, but the story progressed regardless and eventually Kakashi was promoted to jonin status himself. The war was still ongoing, and immediately after Kakashi's promotion his team was assigned a mission to sabotage the enemy's plans. As Kakashi was now a jonin, Minato gave him command of his two teammates, as Minato himself had been given a separate mission. Kakashi and his teammates, named Rin and Obito, headed out on the mission. Unfortunately things went south quickly, as they were ambushed and Rin was captured by enemy forces. Kakashi and Obito were forced to detour from their mission to try and save her. They confronted the enemy ninja and had a short fight, during which Kakashi pushed Obito out of the path of an attack that would have been fatal to Obito and which caused Kakashi to lose his left eye. As they were trying to escape, they found that they had not killed all of the enemy ninja and the remaining enemy used an attack that caused the cave they were in to collapse. Returning the favor from earlier, Obito pushed Kakashi out of the way of a falling boulder, causing himself to be crushed under it in Kakashi's place. It is from this point that Kakashi will be pulled to Expiation.
Personality:
Kakashi is a boy whose life has been shaped by the battlefield. An active-duty shinobi since the age of five, and technically considered an adult by the traditions of his village, Kakashi often shows maturity beyond his age. Since his village is at war, Kakashi is used to battle and has even earned the highest rank possible in the ninja corps, that of jonin. He is regarded as a child prodigy in both tactics and physical ability and is well known in his village, even to civilians, as a "genius ninja". Loyal to his village, he follows the ninja rules to utmost, never shedding a tear and killing his emotions for the sake of the village.
That said, Kakashi's true personality is a little bit more complex than "genius ninja". It's true that he's heads above his peers in physical ability, and he can even hold his own against adult ninja on the battlefield. He has a naturally stoic personality, preferring to keep his emotions to himself. He also tends to speak plainly, not caring if what he says might hurt someone's feelings. With that said, he seems to respect those who work hard and are strong, and he definitely seems to want to please his sensei, Minato.
Kakashi is a person who is driven by goals. When he was young his goal was to please his father, and to rise in the ninja ranks. After his father's death, he began to strive for the goal of becoming so strong that people forgot his father had existed. His father died an ignoble death and his family name was scorned by the public as a result, so he pushed himself to try and restore the Hatake legacy. Similarly, although his father tried to instill in him certain values, Kakashi considered them to be worthless since they led to his father's death. On the fateful mission that sparked the Third Shinobi War, Kakashi's father failed the mission because he chose to save a teammate's life instead. This broke the traditional ninja rules, and as a result Kakashi became very strict on himself about following them to the letter, repressing his emotions and "killing his heart" for the sake of the village.
However, this doesn't mean that Kakashi is an uncaring or apathetic individual. On the contrary, he is very emotional though he does tend to keep it bottled up as much as possible. He cares very deeply for those around him, in particular his teammates and sensei. This can be seen in his guilt after planning to abandon Rin to her captors, and in the way he protects Obito during battle despite his apparent dislike for him. Furthermore I've chosen to pull him from a point in canon where he is realizing that that protecting the people who are important to him might be more important than just following the rules. He's at a turning point in personal philosophy, which means he will have a lot of room to grow as a person in-game.
While Kakashi tends to keep himself occupied with training exercises more often than not, he does have some hobbies outside of the military life. He has an interest in elemental manipulation, or inventing his own ninja techniques. Which ties in to the whole career ninja thing, yes, but also shows the more academic side of his personality. He also enjoys reading, fiction or non, and has at least a passing interest in strategy and word games. He also shows an interest in things like movies and television, at least when prompted by other people. He also enjoys spending time around animals, and has a particular affinity for dogs.
Abilities:
1. Ninja Stuff: Kakashi can perform various ninjutsu, or ninja techniques, mostly relating to the lightning element. He also knows some genjutsu, or illusion techniques, although he doesn't use them too often. He is also more than proficient in hand-to-hand combat, both armed and un-armed. He is familiar with weapons such as kunai, shuriken, and even wields a short sword. Ninja techniques also allow him to do unusual things such as walking on water or up vertical surfaces (it has to do with using chakra to stick to things, basically).
2. Tracking: Kakashi's sense of smell is above-average and he knows the basics of tracking (reading imprints in soil, watching for disturbed foliage or broken twigs, etc.).
3. Survival Skills: Kakashi is trained in basic survival skills, or in simpler terms, he knows how to camp efficiently and keep himself fed and watered in the wilderness if necessary.
I don't feel like Kakashi's abilities really need to be nerfed, as he's responsible enough not to spam ninja techniques everywhere on a whim, and of course any use of ninja techniques on other characters would be discussed with the other player beforehand.
Inventory: a depleted first aid kit, mission scroll, one regular kunai, one three-pronged kunai, and a short sword.
